Town Council - Nov 2, 2009 |
AGENDA McClellanville Town Council November 2, 2009 - 7:00 PM 1. Call to Order 2. Minutes 3. Sewee to Santee CDC has submitted an application (see enclosure) to use the area under the building for their oyster roast on Nov. 21 in case of bad weather. Weather permitting, the oyster roast will be held on the old Middle School grounds. 4. Bud Hill would like to speak to Council regarding a proposed memorial for Elizabeth Dawson. 5. Reappointment of Board Members: Emmy Bronson and Daniel Bates are eligible for re-appointment for a new term of service on the Architectural Review Board. Cheves Leland is eligible for re-appointment for a new term on the Board of Zoning Appeals. 6. For Council's consideration: Possible funding for fire tower repairs: the SC Department of Archives and History has notified us of grant funding that might be used for these repairs. Please see Zoning Administrator Kathryn Basha's report, enclosed. Building repairs: Due to plumbing leaks, the flooring in the men's restroom needs to be replaced. Building Official Paul Fields and I will take estimates for replacing the tile or installing commercial grade sheet vinyl flooring in the two restrooms. Does Council feel we should take bids for painting Council Chambers this year? We have $6000 budgeted for building repairs, and $2000 for office maintenance. Water Softener: Dan Wheeler says that he can fix the town office water softener (he estimated for around $150) and would maintain it with addition of salt, etc. for approximately $25 per month. The machine was purchased in the mid 1990's. Should we accept Dan's proposal? Proposal from Clerk Mary Duke and Assistant Gary Bronson regarding launch permit fees (please see enclosures). Any changes to the fees would need to be adopted by amendment to the launch permit ordinance. Michael Morrison from R.L. Morrison & Sons asked about two contractors who will be working on dike repairs in preparation for an upcoming dredging project. They expect to start this month. If they pay $100 in November, can we extend their launch permit into 2010? (Gary suggests using the temporary hang-tag permits for this situation.) Nuisance property complaint: The property owner at 710 Morrison St. responded to a letter from the Town, and has had extensive clearing done on the property. The owner asked about permits for demolition of the house, but has not yet applied for a permit. Does Council suggest further follow-up at this time? Stormwater Management: Does Council have thoughts on whether requesting that the County administer our storm water management might improve the public works maintenance service we receive in town? This would mean an additional fee for property owners, but might be worthwhile if we got better maintenance. Clemson Community Survey: Any suggestions for additions or revisions to the survey (copy enclosed)? C-Fund and Transportation Sales Tax project requests: Please see the copy of the letter from Charleston County. We were turned down this time! FYI: Please see the copy of the notice from Charleston County Planning Dept. County Planning and County Council will be discussing Planned Developments, including those that propose wastewater treatment systems, and considering an amendment to the County Comp Plan regarding these developments. |
