Begin With Books
Would you like for your preschool children to get a free book in the mail every month? A really good book. Appropriate for your child's age.  All you have to do is to sign up and then the books will start to come. The only requirements are that the child's mailing address is in the McClellanville or Awendaw zip code areas and that the child's age is from birth to 4 years old.

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library sponsors the project and money has been raised locally to make it available to children until their fifth birthday.
Brochures to sign up are at the doctor's and dentist's offices, Town Hall, and local restaurants and schools. Or you can call Anne Knight Watson (887-3814) or write Begin With Books, POBox  183, Charleston SC 292402.
You can also get in touch with
Begin With Books if you'd like to help with fundraising or most importantly just now, help us find the rest of the children for us to send books to. Currently we're sending about 125 books every month but the census projects that there are at least twice that many preschoolers. Can you help us find them?
Reading to children is one of the very best ways to help them be ready for school.
Begin With Books is a splendid help in doing just that.

Kitchen Table Climate Study Group
Due to financial mismanagement at the highest levels, many now believe that our country no longer has the money to address its greatest threat - climate change. Join us Thursday, January 26th to watch Inside Job, the 2010 film that exposes the shocking truth behind the economic crisis of 2008 and the role of Wall Street in modern society.  In addition to leading to unprecedented borrowing by our government, this crisis cost tens of millions of people their savings, their jobs, and their homes. The film will be shown at 7 PM at the United Methodist Church Annex.

A Place Of Truth
Between the sea and coastal land
Where waving winter marshes stand
Laced by meandering tidal creeks
It's here the Great Blue Heron seeks
The minnow, shrimp, and fiddler crab
Within the waters, reeds, and mud.
Here ancient tidal rhythms mark
The plodding pace of passing time.
It might instruct this modern race
If it weren't completely blind.
A realm that only speaks of truth
An ancient place devoid of guile
A place unspoiled by man's pretence.
A healing place still free and wild.
Jimmie McClellan
